Demand Strict Action from Authorities

SILCHAR : For the past month, incidents of theft and snatching have been steadily increasing in Durgapalli, Meherpur, leaving local residents distressed. On Saturday morning, like every day, 68-year-old Nirupama Saha, a resident of Durgapalli, went out for her morning walk around 4:30 am.
During her walk, she noticed an unknown young man loitering around the alley, which raised her suspicion. When she approached and questioned him, the man replied that he lived near Rahim’s shop.
Shortly after, taking advantage of a deserted spot, the man attempted to snatch the gold chain from around Nirupama’s neck. A scuffle ensued between the two, during which the snatcher managed to flee with her gold earrings.
In the struggle to protect her chain, Nirupama sustained a serious injury to the bone in her right arm. Her family immediately rushed her to Silchar Medical College for treatment. A formal complaint regarding the snatching was later filed at the Ghungoor Outpost by her husband, Subir Chandra Saha. Nirupama recounted the entire ordeal while speaking to journalists on Sunday.
In another incident that occurred a few days earlier, a mobile phone was stolen from the rented home of a nearby woman during the early hours of the morning. Several residents, including Subir Chandra Saha, Azim Uddin Khan, Arup Kumar Biswas, Bhanu Dev, Riajuddin Ahmed, and Liaquat Ali, expressed serious concern while sharing similar recent theft attempts at their homes.
They stated that although they have been living in Durgapalli for many years, they have never witnessed such frequent theft and snatching incidents until the past month.
They questioned why the police stationed at the nearby Ghungoor Outpost have failed to rein in these unidentified thieves and snatchers. Through the media, the local residents have appealed to the district police administration to promptly arrest the culprits and ensure strict punishment so that peace and security may return to their neighborhood.
