Silchar: A magazine titled “Progressive Assam, Progressive Silchar: Resolute & Unwavering”, highlighting the development works carried out over the past five years by Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, was released on Monday evening at Ashirbad Marriage Hall on Circuit House Road here.

The publication presents a detailed account of the projects implemented during his tenure as MLA, various civic services and welfare initiatives, the city’s development progress, and the aspirations of its citizens. Guests at the event were felicitated with ceremonial scarves, and the programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp.

During the Prabuddha Nagrik Sabha (meeting of enlightened citizens), eminent citizens, intellectuals, and members of civil society shared their views on Silchar’s development and its future.

In his welcome address, Dipayan Chakraborty said several initiatives had been undertaken to improve infrastructure and public services. He stressed the importance of cooperation between citizens and public representatives, and highlighted the need for sustainable development. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressing happiness over the allocation of funds for the development of the Barak Valley.

To tackle waterlogging, steps have been taken to improve drainage systems and canals, including the construction of drains along Longaikhal, which is expected to be completed during the winter. Development works have also been undertaken on Tarapur Shibbari Road, along with initiatives related to waste management, sanitation, and cleanliness.

Funds have been allocated to anganwadi centres, 415 temples and gurdwaras, clubs, schools, health centres, the District Library auditorium, Silchar Medical College and Hospital, and District Sports Association Stadium. Assistance has also been provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

BJP district president Rupam Saha said that the scale of development achieved in the past five years under the BJP government would have been unimaginable during the Congress era. Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha praised Dipayan Chakraborty for his corruption-free approach to development.

Among others present at the event were APDCL Director Nitya Bhushan Dey, Dr. Bibhas Deb, Shibabrata Dutta, and Dr. Bhaskar Gupta. Nearly 2,000 people attended the programme.
