Silchar: A major fire broke out early Saturday morning in the Premtala area of Silchar, reducing a local business establishment to ashes within a short time. The shop, identified as Mokshita Electronics, was completely destroyed in the blaze. The fire spread rapidly, leaving little chance to save goods or property inside.

Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. After nearly an hour of effort, the firefighters managed to bring the flames under control. Nearby shops and houses narrowly escaped damage, preventing what could have turned into a larger disaster.

Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. Losses are feared to run into several lakhs, though the exact extent of damage is yet to be officially assessed.
