Silchar: A massive crater in the middle of a crucial road has become a serious threat to the lives and safety of thousands of commuters in Nandapur-Alagapur, Cachar. The only connecting road to the village falling under the jurisdiction of the Gobindpur-Algapur GP has fallen into complete disrepair, triggering daily struggles for local residents.
The gaping hole, described by villagers as a “death trap,” continues to grow in size and depth, making the stretch nearly impassable. Locals say that during the ongoing monsoon, the crater fills with rainwater, posing grave risks to both pedestrians and vehicles.
This key route is the lifeline for several adjoining villages, with thousands using it daily for commuting, work, education, and medical emergencies. School-going children, office-goers, and ambulances transporting patients have been particularly affected.
Residents allege that despite repeated appeals, the local administration has shown no interest in repairing the road. “It’s not just a road; it’s the only means of connection for our entire area. The situation is worsening each day,” said a local resident.
The villagers have now appealed to local MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya and the concerned departmental authorities to immediately intervene and initiate repair work before a major accident occurs.
Until then, the people of Nandapur-Algapur continue to live in fear, with each journey on this road becoming a gamble with life.
