Shillong : Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the murder case involving Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

According to Tynsong, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered herself in Uttar Pradesh, bringing the total number of accused to five. Efforts are currently underway to bring Sonam to Shillong for further interrogation.

Tynsong expressed frustration over the accusations directed at the people and government of Meghalaya throughout the investigation. He emphasised that with the arrest of the accused, the truth will soon come to light, and those who have blamed Meghalaya will be compelled to retract their statements.

The Deputy CM asserted that Meghalaya remains safe and cautioned against jumping to conclusions without having complete facts, warning that such speculation only leads to confusion.

He also lauded the Meghalaya police for their outstanding performance during the investigation, highlighting the tireless efforts of the police force and the state government, including Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who have been working around the clock to resolve the case swiftly.

On the Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi case, Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, says, “Once the team reaches there, they will arrest her and take transit remand… Yes, it appears so (Sonam had a boyfriend)…

Two teams of Meghalaya Police are there in MP and one team is going to UP to arrest Sonam… It is a fact that she called up her relatives but all this happened after the raids were conducted… If you look at it logically, all these days she hadn’t come out, but last night when Raj Kushwaha and others were caught, suddenly she surfaced. That speaks for itself.”

Following the arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi and hired contract killers from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for the alleged murder of her husband Raja, whose body was found in a gorge at Meghalaya’s Wei Sawdong, senior BJP legislator and Meghalaya Cabinet Minister AL Hek has spoken out against accusations directed at the state police and government.

“Their whole family is blaming the police of Meghalaya. They’re blaming the government of Meghalaya, and particularly, it’s very shameful to blame the people of Meghalaya,” AL Hek said.

Praising the efforts of the Meghalaya police, he added, “They have done an excellent job. Within seven days, they have arrested the culprits. I really bravo the Meghalaya police. They have done their best to nab the culprit.”

The minister also suggested taking legal action against those maligning the state and its people, stating, “We should file defamation cases against those who are spreading false allegations and maligning the reputation of Meghalaya and its citizens.”

The case has attracted significant attention as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Raja’s death.
