Silchar: Assam’s Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass held a detailed review meeting with the Cachar district administration on Sunday, setting a 60 to 75-day deadline for completing key rural development works.
The meeting, held at the new conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, brought together Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome, Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, Cachar Zilla Parishad Chairman Kankan Narayan Sikidar, senior officials and heads of various departments. The gathering signalled the government’s push to accelerate grassroots development and tighten oversight of ongoing schemes.

Dass laid out a district roadmap and made it clear that blocks must adhere to the new timeline. He said progress will be monitored closely and directed all departments to align their efforts for faster delivery of rural infrastructure.
Housing emerged as a central focus. The minister noted that nearly 1.47 lakh people in Cachar have already received houses under government schemes, with many more under construction. He added that about Rs 298 crore has been allocated for the process, highlighting the scale of the mission.
A significant part of the review was dedicated to the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Gramin). Dass asked officials to treat it as a mission-mode programme, stressing the need for stronger field-level monitoring and close coordination among MLAs, district officials and PRI representatives. His instructions aimed at speeding up construction and ensuring that eligible families receive benefits without procedural delays.

Accountability featured prominently in the minister’s directions. All blocks were told to submit regular progress reports, while monitoring teams will conduct frequent field visits to check implementation and quality. Dass also instructed officials to hold Gaon Sabhas across all Gram Panchayats to verify beneficiary lists generated through the Anwesha App survey. He said this is essential for transparency and community involvement.
The minister assigned clear responsibilities to the CEO, Zilla Parishad and all Block Development Officers to ensure timely completion of works. District officials were asked to extend full support to the blocks, and PRI members were urged to stay active in monitoring and Gaon Sabha processes.
Dass said the review meeting marks an important step toward strengthening rural development in Cachar. He called for cohesive, transparent and mission-oriented work so that government schemes reach intended households and progress remains measurable on the ground.
