Silchar : On Sunday, the 17 No. Ward Congress Committee’s Minority Department felicitated District Congress President Abhijit Paul and APCC Minority Department Chairman Salman Khan.
The felicitation ceremony took place at a meeting organized by the Minority Department of the 17 No. Ward Congress Committee at the Pencha Dahar area of Ramnagar in Silchar. Local residents also used the platform to inform Chairman Salman Khan about various pressing issues and demands of the area.
In his speech, Chairman Salman Khan strongly criticized the ruling BJP and raised serious questions about its role. He stated that the Barak Valley currently lacks proper leadership. He expressed concern over the rising drug menace, saying that the youth are increasingly falling prey to addiction and drifting away from the mainstream.
He emphasized that the government has the means to take strong action against drugs and eliminate the issue permanently, but it is failing to do so, resulting in the youth heading down the wrong path.
He further accused the current government of promoting religious division and spreading confusion among the public. Due to a series of arbitrary policies, development in the Barak Valley has been severely hindered. He alleged that the ruling party is using Barak as a corridor for syndicate operations.
Salman Khan also claimed that the BJP’s double-engine government is trembling in fear of Congress youth leader Gaurav Gogoi. He expressed hope that in the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections, the Congress would overthrow the BJP and return to power. He also voiced his belief that with united efforts from party workers, Congress would emerge victorious and the people would see Gaurav Gogoi as the next Chief Minister.
