Lakhipur: The month-long “MLA Cup Lakhipur 2025” (4th edition) came to a close on Wednesday at the Labac Tea Garden playground with the final match and prize distribution ceremony. The tournament was dedicated as a tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg.

Minister Krishnendu Paul attended the event as chief guest. In the much-anticipated final, Hmarkhawlie GP defeated Palorbond GP 2–1 to clinch the championship for the fourth time. Both teams were lauded for their spirited performance.
This year’s tournament was played across 32 locations in the Lakhipur constituency, featuring 388 teams and 5,697 players, making it one of the largest sporting events in the region.
The closing ceremony saw the presence of BJP Cachar District President Rupam Saha, BJP Sribhumi District President Sanjib Banik, Cachar Additional District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Cachar ASP Prithviraj Rajkhowa, along with other distinguished guests.
