Silchar: The District Legal Services Authority, Cachar, successfully organised the National Lok Adalat on December 13, delivering swift and amicable justice through large-scale settlements across the district.
Held in designated courts, the day-long Lok Adalat saw active participation from judicial officers, advocates, concerned departments, and members of the public. The initiative reinforced confidence in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms aimed at reducing pendency and ensuring quicker access to justice.
A wide range of cases were taken up during the proceedings, including matters under the Motor Vehicles Act, civil and criminal disputes, matrimonial cases, and MACT cases. Pre-litigation disputes such as bank recovery cases and issues related to telephone and electricity bills were also addressed.
Out of 1,071 pending cases listed, 252 were disposed of through mutual settlement, resulting in an award amount of Rs 5,67,80,700. Additionally, 394 pre-litigation cases were resolved out of 5,421 taken up, with settlements amounting to Rs 1,26,42,188. The total settlement figure crossed Rs 6.94 crore, providing timely relief to litigants while easing the burden on regular courts.
The National Lok Adalat proved effective in offering speedy, cost-effective, and amicable resolution of disputes, particularly benefiting common citizens by saving time and avoiding prolonged litigation. The scale of settlements reflected growing public trust in the Lok Adalat system and the collective commitment of all stakeholders to justice delivery.
