Silchar: The two-day North East International Sustainable Summit 2025, held on 21 and 22 November at Assam University and sponsored by the North Eastern Council, wrapped up with strong participation from academic institutions, experts, policymakers and international delegates.
Convened by Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjom and coordinated by Prof. M. Tineshowri Devi, the summit offered a focused platform for discussion on sustainability, social equity, innovation and regional development.
The organisers credited the success of the event to the support and guidance of Assam University Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, whose encouragement helped shape the summit’s vision. The North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, served as the principal sponsor and provided financial backing, administrative coordination and steady guidance throughout the preparations. NEC officials L. S. Gangte, Bamin Tarang and Satinder Kr. Bhalla played a central role in ensuring the event’s logistical and institutional support.

The Assam Pollution Control Board also served as a key institutional partner. Under the leadership of Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, the Board contributed financial support along with technical expertise, mentoring and continued engagement on environmental issues that aligned with the summit’s central themes.
The event drew scholars and faculty members from Illinois State University in the United States, Rajshahi University in Bangladesh, Dhaka University, Delhi University, Mizoram University and major institutions across the Northeast. Participants represented Assam University, Arunachal Pradesh University, NEHU, Tezpur University, Manipur University, Nagaland University, Tripura University and Rajiv Gandhi University.
Eight technical sessions covered a wide range of subjects. Presenters examined issues related to social inequality, conservation, displacement and indigenous knowledge, women and youth development, sustainable innovation and economic growth, climate resilience, wetland management, biodiversity, handloom and handicrafts, sustainable livelihoods, cultural psychology, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, connectivity and regional resilience.
The summit concluded with a call to make sustainability a national conversation beginning with the Northeast.
