Silchar: Netaji Chhatra Yuba Sangstha (NCYS) observed its silver jubilee year on Sunday with a day-long series of programmes in Silchar, blending social outreach, physical fitness and cultural engagement.

The celebrations began at 8 am with floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Rangirkhari. This was followed by a colourful procession that moved through Hospital Road, Premtala, Central Road and Park Road before concluding at the DSA ground.

Nearly 400 people took part in the march, including eminent citizens and representatives of various social, cultural and sports organisations. Carrying flags and banners, participants from different age groups and professions gave the procession a strong public presence, which concluded peacefully after drawing attention across the city.

Several organisations joined the procession, reflecting broad community participation. From 10 am onwards, the programme shifted to the DSA ground, where yoga asana competitions and a drawing competition were organised. The drawing event focused on road safety awareness, underscoring the need for responsible behaviour on the roads.

More than 100 children and adolescents participated in the competitions, bringing enthusiasm and vibrancy to the celebrations. The events highlighted the importance of physical fitness and awareness of safety issues, particularly among the younger generation.

NCYS general secretary Dilu Das said the concluding programme of the silver jubilee year will be held on December 20 at Banga Bhawan from 5 pm onwards. The evening programme will include cultural performances, prize distribution and a felicitation ceremony to honour individuals for their notable contributions in different fields.

A mass choir comprising over 100 artistes from various city-based organisations will also present a tribute to legendary artistes Bhupen Hazarika, Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee and Zubeen Garg.
