Silchar: After weeks of internal discord and controversy, the much-delayed Sildubi Gaon Panchayat (GP) committee under Chatla Mandal has finally been constituted, following intervention by the Cachar district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The development comes in the wake of a leaked audio clip allegedly featuring Chatla Mandal BJP President Manav Singh, which led to his exclusion from the Panchayat formation process.
The newly formed committee has named Sumon Roy as President and Suraj Roy as Vice-President. The announcement was made in the presence of key party leaders including Chatla Mandal in-charge Surjya Prasad Gaur, Assam Pradesh BJP member Pradip Das, Mandal Prabhari Dhruba Bhattacharjee, District BJP Vice-President Kankan Narayan Shikdar, and District Executive Member Bholanath Yadav.
According to party insiders, the delay in forming the Sildubi GP committee was largely due to internal conflicts stemming from Manav Singh’s alleged attempts to impose his preferred candidates across various Panchayats, ignoring grassroots workers and party protocols. Discontent within the local cadre had been brewing for weeks.
The situation escalated when an audio recording allegedly surfaced in which Manav Singh could be heard claiming that even the district BJP president could not make appointments without his approval. The remark drew sharp criticism from within party circles and prompted Cachar District BJP President Rupam Saha to act swiftly.
Saha removed Singh from the Panchayat formation process and handed over the responsibility to Dhruba Bhattacharjee, ensuring neutrality by bringing in senior functionaries like Shikdar and Yadav to oversee proceedings. Their involvement led to the successful formation of the Sildubi GP committee with Manav Singh effectively sidelined.
Sources revealed that of the three GPs under Chatla Mandal, the BJP could only form a committee in Sildubi, with internal resistance and Singh’s controversial role being blamed for the failure in the other two. The lack of progress has fueled growing resentment among party workers, many of whom are now openly calling for disciplinary action against Singh.
Local workers have also alleged that Manav Singh manipulated ticket distribution and Panchayat appointments to serve his personal interests, bypassing democratic processes within the organisation. As discontent grows, the demand for his removal or formal censure is gaining traction.
In response to the ongoing crisis, senior BJP leaders have indicated that the party will now adopt a more stringent and transparent approach in forming Panchayat and Anchalik committees across Cachar district. The objective, they say, is to curb unilateral decision-making by Mandal leaders and restore faith in the organisational structure through consensus-driven leadership.
