Silchar: Cachar joined the rest of Assam on Tuesday in celebrating the launch of Orunodoi 3.0, the state government’s flagship financial assistance scheme aimed at empowering women and strengthening inclusive growth. The district administration coordinated the event across 1,575 polling stations, marking one of the largest welfare rollouts in the region.
The day’s proceedings began at 10:30 a.m., coinciding with the statewide inauguration led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma from Guwahati. His address was streamed live across Cachar, allowing thousands of women beneficiaries to witness the launch together at their local venues.

On the very first day, Rs.1,250 was directly transferred to the bank accounts of 1.83 lakh women beneficiaries in Cachar — a clear demonstration of the government’s focus on efficiency, transparency, and timely service delivery.
At the district-level function held at Meherpur Durgabari, Guardian Minister for Cachar, Jayanta Mallabaruah, presided over the launch. He interacted with beneficiaries, praised the district administration for its meticulous planning, and acknowledged the coordinated efforts that ensured the programme’s smooth execution across the district. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, and senior administrative officials were also present, extending full support to the district-level event.
Earlier in the morning, Minister Mallabaruah inaugurated the Cachar chapter of Orunodoi 3.0 by lighting the ceremonial lamp at Booth No. 22, Durga Palli, under Chatla Mandal in Borkhola LAC.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister spoke about how the Orunodoi initiative has evolved since its launch in December 2020 under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. What began as a monthly assistance of Rs.830 was later raised to Rs.1,000, and has now reached Rs.1,250 under Orunodoi 3.0.
He shared that the scheme now covers 40 lakh women across Assam, each receiving the amount directly into her bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. He emphasized that the process leaves no room for corruption or middlemen, ensuring that every rupee reaches the intended recipient.

In Borkhola LAC alone, 25,980 women will benefit under the new phase, including 90 women from Booth No. 22, where the ceremonial inauguration took place. The Minister also confirmed that the monthly assistance will continue to be credited on the 10th of every month, providing reliable support to families in need.
Acknowledging reports of a few eligible women being temporarily excluded due to overlapping ration cards, he assured that these cases will be reviewed and resolved in upcoming phases. “Our goal is to reach every deserving woman of Assam and help her live with dignity and independence,” he said.
In his welcome address, Mridul Yadav greeted the large gathering and encouraged the beneficiaries to attentively listen to the Chief Minister’s live message from Khanapara. He commended the collective effort of officials, field workers, and booth-level teams whose hard work made the simultaneous launch across Cachar possible.
The event marked not only the expansion of a welfare scheme but also a renewed commitment to transparent governance and women’s financial empowerment across Assam.
