Silchar: In a vibrant celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day, the District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar, organised a large-scale yoga camp that drew enthusiastic participation from across the city’s sports academies. Held on Friday morning, the event saw 170 young athletes from cricket, hockey, badminton, and other disciplines take part in the special session.
The yoga camp was led by renowned trainers Shubhankar Saha and Samyadeep Bhattacharjee, who conducted a dynamic series of yogasanas and breathing exercises, tailored to enhance the agility, focus, and overall wellness of young sportspersons.
Prior to the session, DSA President Shibabrata Dutta addressed the gathering with a thought-provoking speech on the relevance of yoga in modern athletic training. He emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into the regular practice of athletes to strengthen their physical and mental endurance.
The event was further graced by the presence of several dignitaries and sports officials, including Vice President Ashutosh Roy, Debashish Som, Ajay Kumar Roy, Animesh Chanda, Sukhen Sarkar, Satyajit Das, and coaches from various disciplines such as Raju Hazam (Hockey), Nirmalya Nath (Badminton), Joydeep Kar (Cricket), Rahul Dev, Anup Das, Ranju Chanda, and Debabrata Paul, among others.
Notably, a large number of parents and guardians turned up in support of their children, creating a spirited atmosphere at the venue. Many lauded the DSA’s initiative, calling it a commendable step toward holistic sports education in the Barak Valley.
With growing emphasis on mental health and fitness in youth sports, the event marked a significant effort in promoting yoga as a complementary discipline to mainstream athletic training.
