Several hundred men and women took part in the protest program

Silchar : On Sunday, residents of Kanchanpur, a locality near Silchar town, staged a protest against anti-social activities and the atrocities of land mafias. Several hundred men and women took part in the protest program.
Speaking to the media, former regional panchayat member Mrinal Das, GP president Anuradha Das, and other locals said that for the past few days, the people of Kanchanpur have been living in fear because of anti-social activities and the terror of land mafias.
They further alleged that notorious land mafia Arbindu Das of Silchar, Block Congress secretary Subrata Das, Shilkuri resident Shukkur Das, and several other miscreants have been tormenting the local people to such an extent that they are losing their peace of mind at night.
They also mentioned that Arbindu Das’s nephew was recently caught stealing. A few days ago, his nephew, Gangu Das, was caught red-handed by the locals while stealing in the Kanchanpur area and was handed over to the police.
Moreover, land mafia Arbindu Das frequently threatens helpless villagers over the phone. Locals also alleged that he regularly spreads false news against several residents of Kanchanpur. According to them, they have substantial information and evidence about the misdeeds of these land mafias.
Through the media, the villagers appealed to the district administration, the Chief Minister of Assam, and Minister Kaushik Rai to take immediate and strict action against the miscreants and the notorious land mafia Arbindu Das.
Among those present at the protest were Bizen Tanti, Kajol Das, Subudh Rikyason, Joyban Praja, Gauranga Das, Shikha Deb, Archana Das, Pronoy Das, Phulo Bauri, Pompi Bauri, Jotish Das, Chandan Singh Chettri, Pinki Pompi, Bishu Das, and others.
