Silchar: Radhamadhab College in Silchar observed the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the iconic song penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, with a choral performance on Friday. The event was held in accordance with directives from the State Department of Higher Education.

Teachers, non-teaching staff, library employees, and students gathered at the college premises to sing Vande Mataram in unison. The programme began with a welcome address by Acting Principal Dr. Arundhati Dutta Choudhury, who highlighted the symbolic importance of the day.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Principal Dr. Rahul Chakraborty said that Vande Mataram had served as a unifying mantra during India’s struggle for independence, inspiring countless freedom fighters. He noted that the government’s initiative to celebrate the song’s 150th year aims to rekindle patriotic spirit among citizens, particularly among students and the younger generation, by reminding them of the song’s historical and cultural significance.
The event concluded with participants expressing their pride in being part of a nationwide effort to honor one of India’s most revered patriotic compositions.
