Silchar: Gurucharan University commemorated the 53rd birth anniversary of Zubeen Garg on Tuesday at 10.30 in the morning on the university campus. The programme was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Niranjan Roy, Registrar Dr Bidyut Kanti Paul, Academic Registrar Dr. Abhijit Nath, Arts and Humanities Coordinator Ashraf Hussain, along with faculty members and students from various departments.
After the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, floral tributes were offered at the portrait of Zubeen Garg. Roy said Zubeen Garg was not only a musician but a true devotee of humanity. Helping people from different walks of life was a constant part of his life’s work. His values and compassion earned him deep respect and affection from society. He urged students to nurture these values within themselves as well.
Dr. Paul said many of the people Zubeen Garg once supported financially are today paying tribute to him by singing at his memorial. Ashraf Hussain added that Zubeen worked for everyone, regardless of caste, creed or religion.
Students then paid their respects through songs, poems and speeches. The programme concluded with a group performance of the song Mayabini. The entire event was conducted by Dr. Uttam Paluya.
