Guwahati : The Rotary Club of Guwahati organised an insightful and thought-provoking talk by Dr. Akashitora Dutta, Rotary Peace Scholar (Chulalongkorn University, Class of 21) and Director, Media & Communication, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). The session, titled “Writers as Peace Makers,” explored the power of storytelling and creative expression in fostering peace and empathy across communities.

Dr. Dutta highlighted the pivotal role of Rotary International in promoting global peace and understanding through its initiatives and Peace Fellowship programs. Drawing from her field experience in Cambodia, she reflected on the tragic history of the Khmer Rouge regime under Pol Pot, where millions perished, and spoke about how such events reaffirm the need for peace education and dialogue in today’s world.

During her address, Dr. Dutta also spoke about Rotary’s enduring reputation as a global organisation dedicated to service, ethics, and peace-building. She commended the Rotary network for its consistent efforts to bring people together beyond borders, beliefs, and barriers.

Apart from her contributions as a peace scholar, Dr. Dutta is also well-known for hosting the acclaimed television reality show “Byoktigoto”, which touched countless hearts by reuniting broken families through live counselling and storytelling.

RCG President Rtn. Manoj Kumar Das warmly welcomed Dr. Dutta and expressed deep appreciation for her graciously sparing valuable time to be among the members. He emphasized the club’s commitment to working together on socially beneficial projects that align with Rotary’s mission of service and peace.

The event was attended by Rotarians and guests who engaged in a meaningful discussion on the intersection of literature, media, and peace. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks and fellowship, celebrating Rotary’s continued commitment to nurturing peace in society.
