Silchar: In a vibrant display of community pride and celebration, the Shyamaprasad Road Durga Puja Committee, Shillongpatty Development Committee, and Shillongpatty Sports Club came together on Sunday evening to felicitate newly elected Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Kanad Purkayastha.

The event, held at Shillongpatty, was steeped in tradition and admiration, as the community gathered to honour one of its own. Purkayastha was presented with a traditional uttoriyo, a bouquet, a memento, and heartfelt expressions of respect from those in attendance.

The occasion witnessed the enthusiastic participation of a large number of community members and organisers. Among those present were chief patron Hemo Ranjan Das, president Swarnali Choudhury, and vice presidents Mitu Ghosh, Bhanu Chakraborty, Madhab Saha, Pallab Nandi, Gautam Nandi, Sankar Dey, Anjan Paul, Alok Ghosh, Dr. Darshana Patoa, Biswajit Roy, Raja Laskar, Dr. Ankur Bhattacharjee, Dr. Anjan Paul, and Dr. Kiranmoy Das.

The committee’s organisational strength was further reflected in the presence of secretaries Prajjal Das, Dipankar Misra, Supratim Bhattacharjee, and Marmik Deb Roy; assistant secretaries Biswarup Dutta, Dipanjan Roy, Akash Choudhury, Chiradeep Deb, and Subham Deb; and treasurers Anku Nandi, Shankar Dey, and Himadri Das.

The evening served not just as a tribute to Kanad Purkayastha’s political journey, but also as a reaffirmation of Shillongpatty’s deep-rooted community spirit and unity.
