New Sanitation Vehicles in Major Civic Upgrade

Silchar: Silchar took a big step toward becoming a safer and cleaner city on Wednesday with the launch of a citywide surveillance and sanitation upgrade programme at the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) premises.
The initiative, supported through a Corporate Social Responsibility partnership with Federal Bank, aims to strengthen public safety and improve civic services without putting any extra financial burden on residents.
As part of the surveillance push, 73 CCTV cameras have been installed at key locations across the city. These include busy road junctions, markets and other sensitive public areas. A dedicated supervisor will monitor the live feed, and footage will be shared with Cachar Police whenever needed to help in crime control and traffic management.
The sanitation wing of the programme received a major boost with the addition of five vehicles donated by Federal Bank. These include four mini-trucks and one Traveller vehicle to support waste collection and daily operations. Special attention has been given to night-time cleaning, with the Traveller vehicle arranged to safely transport night sweepers, especially women workers.
To tackle roadside construction waste, additional vehicles have also been pressed into service for debris removal, supporting the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The launch event was attended by District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy, APDCL Director Nitya Bhushan Dey, and officials of Federal Bank. Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty lauded the leadership of SMC Commissioner Srishti Singh, crediting her for driving technology-based reforms and visible improvements in civic management.
“This collaboration shows how public and private efforts can come together for better urban governance,” the MLA said. With this initiative, Silchar has signalled its intent to move toward planned, transparent and technology-driven development, focusing on a cleaner, safer and smarter urban future for its citizens.
