Silchar : The E-Media Journalists’ Association and Silchar Press Club strongly condemned the brutal attack on journalist Madhurya Saikia in Silapathar. On Saturday, journalists staged a protest near the Silchar Press Club, calling the assault not just an attack on the press, but on society itself.
Though an FIR was lodged, the attackers reportedly backed by political influences have not yet been arrested. Protest leaders urged Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the DGP to ensure justice and exemplary punishment for the culprits. They also demanded immediate implementation of strict laws to ensure the safety of journalists.
Among those present were Association President Abhijit Bhattacharjee, VP Aniruddha Laskar, Secretary Bikram Sarkar, and other journalists including Shankar Dey, Ajit Das, Dilwar Hussain, Surjeet Chakraborty, and others.
