Ten past and present Mahila Congress workers were felicitated with mementos and uttorios

Silchar: The Silchar District Mahila Congress celebrated the 41st Foundation Day of the All India Mahila Congress on Monday with a series of events highlighting women’s leadership and contribution.
The programme began at Indira Bhawan with floral tributes at the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, honoured as a symbol of women’s empowerment. Later, a seminar on “Women, a Constructive Pioneer” was held at Shyamacharan Hall, presided over by district president Bandita Trivedi Roy.
State leaders including Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress general secretary Nabina Mazumder, Silchar District Congress president Sajal Acharjee, APCC vice president Sharif-uj-Zaman Laskar, secretary Abhijit Paul, spokesperson Sanjeev Roy and Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Silchar Surjo Kanta Sarkar attended the programme along with several other dignitaries.
As part of the celebration, ten past and present Mahila Congress workers were felicitated with mementos and uttorios. This was the fifth such felicitation programme organised by the district unit in the last two years. All invited dignitaries were also honoured on the occasion.
Speakers praised the active role of the Silchar Mahila Congress and voiced confidence that the organisation would play a crucial role in the forthcoming municipal and assembly elections.
In her address, Bandita Trivedi Roy paid tribute to Suchitra Kriplani, who pioneered the formation of the All India Mahila Congress, and urged members to draw inspiration from the leadership of Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Nabina Mazumder noted that women continue to face widespread discrimination and violence, particularly among weaker sections, and stressed the need for stronger action.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony. Senior members and activists of the Mahila Congress also joined the celebration, which was anchored by Ruma Sinha.
