Silchar: Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic spirit at the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) office on Friday. The programme was organised by SMC in collaboration with Shrishti Waste Management Services (SWMS) and witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, staff, and local citizens.

The celebrations began with the unfurling of the Tricolour by Municipal Commissioner, Shristi Singh, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. In her address, Singh highlighted the importance of Independence Day and called upon everyone to work with dedication for the overall development of Silchar. She lauded the relentless efforts of SMC and SWMS in maintaining civic services and cleanliness in the city.

Remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters of Barak Valley, Singh said that their contributions are a source of pride for every citizen. Notably, she delivered her speech in Bengali to ensure that her message reached every section of society.

Emphasising the need for collective responsibility in keeping the city clean, Singh urged citizens to actively participate in the Swachhata Abhiyan. The programme concluded with a renewed sense of patriotism and a collective pledge to contribute towards nation-building.
