Silchar: In a meaningful tribute to Deshbhakt Tarun Ram Phukan, a towering figure of Assam’s freedom movement, the Silchar Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Shrishti Waste Management Team, organised a children’s art competition on Monday at Gandhibag Park. The event was held under the inspiring theme “Swachhata hi Deshbhakti”, linking patriotic values with the civic message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
The park buzzed with energy as young participants brought their visions to life through art—each drawing reflecting themes of freedom, discipline, cleanliness, and love for the nation. The Executive Officer of the Silchar Municipal Corporation, Nabuttam Sharma, was present on the occasion, encouraging the children and reiterating the importance of cultivating civic values from an early age.
Organisers shared that the event not only commemorated the legacy of Tarun Ram Phukan on his death anniversary but also aimed to instill a sense of duty and accountability in the city’s younger generation. Through their colourful expressions, children celebrated the idea that patriotism today also means keeping our surroundings clean and our environment protected.
The Municipal Corporation’s initiative underscored a powerful message: true homage to national heroes lies in living their ideals—by taking pride in a clean and responsible community life. By blending historical remembrance with present-day civic engagement, the programme served both as a tribute and a call to action.
A cleaner India, the event reminded all, is not just a civic goal but a patriotic duty.
