Silchar: In a significant boost to rail connectivity in Barak Valley, the long-standing demand for a stoppage of the Silchar–Rangiya Express (15611/15612) at Chandranathpur Railway Station has been approved.
Sharing the update on Thursday, Silchar Member of Parliament Parimal Suklabaidya said the decision was taken following his proposal to the Railway Ministry.
He also informed that the Agartala–SMVB Humsafar Express (12504) and SMVB–Agartala Humsafar Express (12503) will begin halting at Chandranathpur Railway Station from March 7, 2026.
The MP expressed gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting the request and approving the stoppage.
According to Suklabaidya, the move will bring relief to passengers and improve travel convenience for people in the surrounding areas. He said the additional stoppages are expected to strengthen railway connectivity for the people of Barak Valley and the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency.
Local residents have long demanded better rail access at Chandranathpur, and the new stoppages are likely to make long-distance travel easier while also supporting regional connectivity and development.
