Silchar: The Sankar Math-O-Mission on Mahaprabhu Sarani, Sonai Road, celebrated its annual Annakut festival on Wednesday with devotion and spiritual fervour. From early morning, the monastery grounds were bustling with devotees and sadhus, while the courtyard resonated with devotional music, Krishna chants, and the recitation of the hundred names.

By noon, Mahaprasad was distributed among nearly two hundred devotees, who gathered together to share the joy of devotion and spiritual enthusiasm.

Bijnanananda Giri Maharaj explained that the festival centers on arranging a “mountain” of assorted foods and sweets, symbolizing Govardhan Hill. “This tradition establishes a unique connection between nourishment and spirituality,” he said, adding that it teaches gratitude toward nature while promoting a sense of community and abundance.

He noted that devotees carefully prepare various dishes as naivedya offerings for the deity, making the festival a celebration of the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.

Biplab Deb, secretary of the Mission management committee, said the Annakut festival is one of the monastery’s most important annual events. “Such celebrations go beyond religious rituals; they foster unity and joy among devotees,” he added.

Notable attendees included Ramu Debnath, Beauty Dey, Choton Dey, Shikha Dey, Tapan Dey, Laxmi Sen, Pinky Mitra, Manna Dey, Sumi Mitra, Beena Dey, Ranti Mitra, Rakesh Mitra, Ropan Mitra, Suman Mitra, and Rakesh Dey.
