Banskandi: A disturbing incident of domestic violence has shaken Ujan Tarapur in Banskandi, where a man was brutally assaulted by his father following a dispute over a house being built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on October 10. The victim, Bilal Ahmed, was allegedly attacked by his father, Taju Mia, after an argument broke out during the government’s geo-tracking process for the PMAY housing project.
Bilal claimed that his father, enraged during the confrontation, threw salt into his eyes and face, attempted to set him on fire, and then beat him with a stick. The attack left him with severe injuries to both hands, and one finger on his left hand was severed.
Local residents and Bilal’s wife, Rexona Begum, rushed to his aid and took him to Banskandi Police Station in a severely injured condition. He was later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he remained under treatment for 13 days.
Now recovering at his wife’s home in Berenga Part III, Bilal said he still fears returning to his own house due to ongoing threats from his father.
Rexona Begum told reporters that the family is facing immense hardship, as her husband, a daily wage earner, can no longer work. She alleged that although a case has been filed at Banskandi Police Station, no effective action has yet been taken against the accused.
Through the media, she appealed to the authorities to arrest and take strict action against Taju Mia to ensure justice for her injured husband.
