Hundreds Still Missing

KRC TIMES Desk

Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka is facing a mounting humanitarian crisis as the toll from Cyclone Ditwah continues to rise. At least 334 people have died so far, while 370 remain missing, according to the Disaster Management Centre. More than 11 lakh people have been affected across the country, and close to 2 lakh have been displaced and moved into safety shelters.

The scale of the devastation has pushed authorities to seek greater support from international agencies. Relief operations are underway, but officials say the need for assistance is growing as rescue teams reach more remote areas.

India has expanded its support through Operation Sagar Bandhu. External affairs minister S Jaishankar said an additional 10 tons of disaster response material is being sent to Colombo, adding to earlier consignments already delivered.

Rescue workers, medical teams and volunteers continue to battle difficult conditions as the search for the missing stretches into another day. Authorities warn that numbers could rise further as assessments continue in the worst-hit regions.
