Silchar: The Public Works Roads Department (PWRD), Silchar Territorial Road Sub-Division, has announced night-time traffic restrictions on two key city roads — Kamala Road and Panchayet Road — effective from August 18, until further orders.

Vehicular movement will remain prohibited between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM to facilitate large-scale reconstruction under the state government’s flagship urban infrastructure programme, Mukhya Mantrir Nagariya Pakipath Nirman Aachani (MMNPNA) 2023–24.

As per the notification issued by Assistant Executive Engineer S.U. Barbhuiya, Kamala Road will undergo full-scale reconstruction. Alongside, Panchayet Road will see major upgrades, including replacement of old ICBP stretches, construction of RCC cover drains, and building of a guard wall to enhance road safety.

Officials admitted that the restrictions may inconvenience commuters but stressed that the night-time schedule was chosen to minimize disruption during the day. “Inconvenience caused is regretted,” the notice stated, urging residents to extend cooperation during this crucial development phase.

Once completed, the twin projects are expected to significantly strengthen Silchar’s urban road connectivity and drainage system, marking another stride in Cachar district’s efforts to modernize civic infrastructure for safer and smoother mobility.
