DC Mridul Yadav directs measures to protect key government infrastructure project

Silchar: In line with the Assam government’s infrastructure development goals, the District Administration of Cachar, led by Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a directive regulating land use for the proposed 4-Lane Silchar–Jiribam Project (Package No. 2) under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
According to the notification, land acquisition for the project will cover areas under Digligaon and Kharjanpunjee villages in Cachar District. The administration has made it clear that any construction, agricultural, or developmental activity within the designated project area must have prior approval from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.
The order further specifies that any unauthorized activity—temporary or permanent—carried out after the issuance of this notice will not be eligible for compensation during land acquisition or project execution. This applies to both private and commercial structures located within the proposed Right of Way (ROW).
Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav stated that the directive aims to prevent encroachment, promote transparency, and ensure smooth implementation of this vital highway project designed to strengthen regional connectivity and drive economic growth in southern Assam.
The order takes effect immediately upon publication. The District Administration has urged all residents and landowners to comply fully with the notification to avoid disputes or loss of compensation eligibility.
