Silchar: The Assam government’s ambitious initiative to distribute subsidised lentils, sugar, and salt under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 was launched across the state on Monday amid an atmosphere of celebration. The scheme is designed to make essential food items more affordable and accessible to eligible families.

In Silchar’s Kanakpur Part II, the official inauguration took place at Fair Price Shop No. 174, where the event drew enthusiastic participation from the local community. Among those present were Biplab Kumar De, Dhirendra Chandra Das, Pradip Kumar Dev, Sudhanshu Kumar Das, and Prabhat Chandra. Beneficiaries received their allotted packets of pulses, sugar, and salt as part of the launch programme.

The project is expected to benefit around 2.75 crore people across Assam, covering nearly 70 lakh ration card-holding families. De expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, and local MLA Dipayan Chakraborty for their efforts in implementing the scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Dhirendra Chandra Das commended the BJP government’s continued focus on public welfare and urged collective support to sustain the momentum of development. Pradip Kumar Dev added that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises and placing citizens at the centre of every initiative.

Also present were fair price shop dealer Birendra Chandra Das, Nayan Jyoti Das, Rahul Roy, Biswajit Sarkar, and several others.
