Silchar: The Assam government has launched a new welfare initiative to distribute subsidized lentils, sugar, and salt to all families holding ration cards under the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The scheme was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, marking another step toward ensuring affordable food essentials for every household in the state.

The launch event was simultaneously observed across all fair price shops in Assam under the leadership of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kaushik Rai. The state-wide rollout ensured participation from local representatives and beneficiaries alike.

In Silchar, the programme was organized at the fair price outlet of dealer Anup Kumar Roy (Ration Dealer No. 211) under the Silchar Legislative Assembly constituency. Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty attended the event, interacted with beneficiaries, and joined them in virtually witnessing the Chief Minister’s state-level inauguration.

The new distribution initiative is aimed at strengthening food security and ensuring timely delivery of essential commodities to ration cardholders through the state’s extensive network of fair price shops.
