SVCC Hosts Ninth Edition of ‘Remembering Our Heroes’ to Honour Sporting Icons

Silchar: The Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club (SVCC) held the ninth edition of its annual flagship event, Remembering Our Heroes, on Saturday evening at Ambicapatty, celebrating and recognising outstanding achievements in the field of sports.

The ceremony began at around 7 p.m. and was attended by several dignitaries, including Assam Minister Kaushik Rai, who graced the occasion as chief guest. Noted sports organiser Babul Hore, Silchar District Sports Association (DSA) President Shibabrata Dutta, and Hailakandi DSA General Secretary Saibal Sengupta were also present.

In his address, Minister Rai praised SVCC for its enduring commitment to promoting sports and preserving sporting legacies in the region. He assured full support from his end and promised to look into the club’s long-pending requirement for land. “Within a week, I will send them the details. All possible help will be extended to SVCC,” he affirmed.

Delivering the welcome speech, SVCC President Dr. Siddharth Shankar Bhattacharjee said, “The idea is to celebrate the spirit of the game and honour those who paved the way for future generations. Over the years, Remembering Our Heroes has become a symbol of SVCC’s dedication to acknowledging the contributions of the region’s sporting icons and unsung heroes.”

The event was anchored by well-known sports personality Bijendra Prasad Singh. Prominent members of the sporting community, including SVCC Secretary Dipankar Deb, Haran Das, Himadri Das, Raihan Mazumder, and Abhishek Chakraborty, were also in attendance.

The awards presented at the event included:

  • Cricketer of the Year (Male): Hritwik Dhar
  • Cricketer of the Year (Female): Urmila Chatterjee
  • Promising Cricketer of the Year (Male): Hritwik Dhar
  • Promising Cricketer of the Year (Female): Mangngal Singha
  • Outstanding Performance in Noor Uddin Trophy (Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2025): Rituraj Biswas
  • Special Award for Differently Abled Cricketer: Monojit Das
  • Footballer of the Year: Sampow Rongmei
  • Badminton Player of the Year: Suraj Goala
  • Table Tennis Player of the Year: Divija Paul
  • Chess Player of the Year: Abhrojyoti Nath

Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on Raju Das (Cricket) and veteran sports organisers Hemoranjan Das, Bikash Shyam, Dr. Anup Kumar Roy, Sujoy Dutta Roy, and Montu Suklabaidya for their invaluable contribution to the field of sports.

The event also felicitated Lenrul FC (U-13) for emerging as State Level Youth Football League Champions – 2025.

The evening marked yet another milestone in SVCC’s journey of acknowledging excellence and inspiring future generations through the celebration of sportsmanship and legacy.
