Women’s health screening and blood donation drives led by DC Mridul Yadav; MP Kanad Purkayastha hails initiative

Silchar : The Cachar district administration, under District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, launched the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Seva-hi-Samarpan: Seva Saptah programme. The drive combined mass health screenings for women with a district-wide blood donation campaign.
The programme, inaugurated nationally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, was virtually linked to Silchar’s S M Dev Civil Hospital, which hosted the Cachar launch. Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, who attended as Chief Guest, described the initiative as a vital step in improving women’s health and family well-being.
Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Shibananda Roy highlighted the scale of the effort, noting that 10,140 women were screened across 14 hospitals including Silchar Medical College and Hospital, S M Dev Civil Hospital, seven Community Health Centres, and five Primary Health Centres. General examinations were also conducted in 324 government facilities and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, supported by specialist doctors.
The initiative was supported by Assistant Commissioner and Branch Officer of District Health Services, cum In-charge Deputy Director of Information & Public Relations (Barak Valley Zone), Deepa Das, along with other officials and medical staff.
Alongside the screenings, Cachar organised a major blood donation drive at ten venues, collecting 580 units in a single day. The Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Silchar, collected 40 units in the presence of DC Mridul Yadav, while the BSF camp in Masimpur saw 93 units donated with Additional District Commissioner Dr. Khaleda Sultana Ahmed, ACS, attending.
Speaking at the SP’s office, DC Yadav said, “These drives are not only a tribute to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s birthday but also a step towards realising his vision of Seva Hi Samarpan. Every woman screened and every unit of blood donated strengthens our collective resolve for a healthier and more compassionate society.”
The day-long activities drew participation from medical professionals, security forces, district officials, and citizens, turning the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan into a mass movement. The turnout reflected both strong community engagement and the administration’s commitment to grassroots healthcare under the spirit of Seva Saptah.
