Dibrugarh : In a significant political development in Upper Assam, thousands of people – including several former leaders and members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) – formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a large induction programme held in Dibrugarh on Wednesday.
The event was organised under the leadership of Shankar Jyoti Baruah and witnessed enthusiastic participation from supporters and new entrants from across the district. Senior party leaders described the mass joining as a major boost to the BJP’s grassroots base in Dibrugarh ahead of upcoming organisational and electoral activities.
According to party sources, the new entrants include youth, women, and representatives from various localities who expressed confidence in the BJP’s policies and development agenda in Assam.
The induction ceremony was attended by BJP state president Dilip Saikia, Cabinet Ministers Bimal Borah and Jayanta Malla Baruah, Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika, Duliajan MLA Teros Gowala, and BJP General Secretary Rituparna Baruah, among other district-level functionaries.
Addressing the gathering, party leaders said the steady influx of supporters reflects growing public trust in the BJP’s governance model and its commitment to development in the state. They emphasised that the party remains focused on strengthening booth-level organisation and expanding outreach across all sections of society.
The programme concluded with newly inducted members taking a pledge to work towards the party’s organisational objectives and contribute to the overall development of Dibrugarh district.
