Silchar: In a gesture steeped in respect and recognition, Silchar’s historic Town Club conferred Honorary Membership upon five former sportspersons during its 10th Biennial General Meeting held on Sunday at the club premises. Among those honoured was former Santosh Trophy player Chandan Singh, widely known in local circles for his stellar contributions to football.

The event was graced by the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, who joined club officials and guests in applauding the dedication of these veteran sportspersons. The list of honourees also included Debendra Shuklabaidya, a former national-level football referee from the Itkhola area, whose long-standing association with the game has inspired generations in the region.

The honorary memberships were awarded in recognition of the recipients’ unwavering loyalty, service, and significant contributions to the club over the years.

Sports enthusiast Bijendra Prasad Singh, expressing his appreciation, said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the recipients. May the Almighty bless them with good health and a long life. I salute Town Club for this noble initiative that celebrates the legacy of those who shaped our sporting heritage.”
