Silchar: Hundreds gathered at Gandhi Bagh on Saturday to pay tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg, a versatile artist beloved across Assam and beyond. Garg passed away on Friday in Singapore, leaving fans and the wider community in deep mourning.

The programme drew participation from a diverse cross-section of society, including cultural and sports organisations, government and private institutions, clubs, NGOs, temple and festival committees, student and political groups, journalists, lawyers, and members of the public.

Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Kumar Yadav described Garg’s death as a profound loss to the community. He extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those affected, acknowledging the widespread grief that has touched the district.

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty also expressed his condolences, paying tribute to Garg’s enduring legacy in music and culture. He highlighted the shared mourning among residents and the administration, noting that Garg’s impact extended far beyond his immediate circle.

ASP Subrata Kumar Sen, Municipal Commissioner Srishti Singh, Rumlee Bhattacharjee, Joydeep Chakraborty, Soumitra Shankar Choudhury, Seema Purkayastha, Sharmistha Deb, Sauvik Bhattacharjee, Meghraj Chakraborty, and others also offered tearful tributes. The ceremony was anchored by Biplab Biswas, who guided the proceedings with sensitivity and reverence.
