Silchar: The Trinamool Congress staged a two-hour protest in Silchar on Wednesday, demanding the immediate arrest of Dimasa Writers’ Forum president Mukteswar Kemprai. The demonstration took place in front of the Shaheed Khudiram statue and saw the participation of Cachar District Trinamool Congress leaders and workers.

Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool leader Sushmita Dev led the protest and strongly condemned Kemprai’s recent remarks. “By calling the 1961 language martyrs Bangladeshis, Kemprai has insulted 45 lakh people of Barak Valley,” Dev said.

She alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s silence on the issue reflected his disregard for the people of Barak. “The Chief Minister is playing games with Barak’s people. The current BJP government does not know how to respect the Bengali community,” she added.

Protesters carried placards and banners demanding Kemprai’s arrest and called on the administration and state government to take prompt action. The Trinamool leadership vowed to continue their agitation until justice is served.
