SILCHAR : A tragic incident occurred on Sunday in the Madhura River. Two youths drowned while bathing with friends. The incident took place at Madhura Quarry in the Dayadisha area. The deceased youths were identified as Rajdeep Das (22) and Biswajit Dutta (19), also known as Narayan, both residents of Kanpur in Silchar.

According to police sources, on Sunday, Rajdeep and Biswajit, along with three other friends, went for a picnic at the Dayadisha area. Around 2:30 PM, Rajdeep and Biswajit attempted to enter the river for a bath, but their friends tried to stop them. Ignoring their warnings, both entered the river and drowned within moments.

Their friends, along with local residents, searched the river and eventually managed to rescue Rajdeep. He was taken to Udharbond Hospital and later referred to Silchar Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. However, Biswajit could not be located by his friends.

Locals then informed Udharbond Police Station. Officer-in-charge Sim Timung rushed to the spot and informed the SDRF. The SDRF team quickly arrived and, after extensive search operations, recovered Biswajit’s body from the river by evening. The latest reports confirm that both bodies have been sent to Silchar Medical College for post-mortem. The bodies will be handed over to their families on Monday.
