AIZAWL : American freelance journalist Collin Mayfield has been seriously injured after accidentally stepping on a landmine while covering the Myanmar conflict. The incident occurred near Mount Kennedy in Tedim township, Chin State, where Mayfield was embedded with a PDF-Zoland column for field reporting.

The blast resulted in the loss of several toes on his left foot and caused additional injuries to his left arm and right leg. He was quickly evacuated across the border to India and is currently receiving medical care at Ebenezer Hospital in Aizawl, Mizoram.

Hospital officials said surgeons are scheduled to operate on his injured left leg at 1 pm today. Mayfield, widely known for his ground reporting from conflict zones, recently released a three-part documentary series titled The Chin Resistance, exploring the ongoing civil war in Myanmar.
