Vidyarambh Ceremony Marks Beginning of Academic Journey for Commerce and BBA Students at Gurucharan University

Silchar: On Monday, Gurucharan University held a Vidyarambh ceremony for the 2025 batch of Commerce and BBA students, marking the commencement of their undergraduate academic journey.

The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Gurucharan University, Prof. Niranjan Roy. Also present were Registrar Dr. Bidyut Kanti Paul, Academic Registrar Dr. Abhijit Nath, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Joydeep Paul, and distinguished guests former Vice-Principal of Gurucharan College Ashesh Bhattacharjee, President of the Nehru College Governing Body Dr. Chandan Dey, and senior advocate of the Silchar Bar Association, Tuhina Sharma.

The programme began with the screening of a short film titled “Gurucharan University Towards Excellence” produced by the university’s Mass Communication Department.

The welcome address was delivered by the Head of the Department of Commerce, Sanjib Bhattacharjee.

In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy welcomed the students to the university, stating that the National Education Policy has brought about a transformative change in the education system by restructuring it.

He stressed that the ultimate aim of education is to build true human character, ensuring the holistic development of a student. Discipline and punctuality, he said, are two essential qualities for becoming a good student and advancing in the pursuit of knowledge. He also emphasised that maintaining 75% attendance in the university is mandatory.

Former Vice-Principal Ashesh Bhattacharjee observed that if students are willing to learn, they will always need a teacher. He added that apart from academic performance, students should also possess good general knowledge and proper behaviour.

Dr. Chandan Dey remarked, “Gurucharan College had a glorious past, and I hope Gurucharan University will have a bright future.”

Advocate Tuhina Sharma, through a PowerPoint presentation on “Gender Sensitisation and Legal Framework,” addressed issues of gender inequality in society.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Joydeep Bhattacharjee, and the ceremony concluded with the National Anthem. The entire programme was conducted by Dr. Debraj Chakraborty.
