Silchar: The 11th International Yoga Day was observed on Saturday at Jeevan Deep Old Age Home in Fakirtilla, Silchar, with elderly residents participating in a special one-hour yoga session. The event was held from 7 a.m. under the initiative of the old age home, which is run by the Government of India.
Srimad Bigyanananda Brahmachari Maharaj, the head of Silchar Shankar Math and Mission, graced the occasion and emphasized the relevance of yoga in modern life. “Yoga is a powerful discipline that helps control the fluctuations of the mind,” he said. “In today’s world, the significance of yoga in human life is boundless.”
The programme aimed to promote physical and mental well-being among the senior residents through guided yoga practice.
The event was organised with the active support of Project-in-charge Surabhita Dutta, Superintendent Nibedita Barman, Yoga instructor Debashish Nath, Humayun Choudhury, Amir Uddin Choudhury, Kabir Ahmed Choudhury, along with several others who contributed to the smooth conduct of the camp.
The event was a testament to the enduring value of yoga in enhancing quality of life, especially among the elderly, and highlighted the community’s commitment to holistic health and well-being.
