Silchar: To commemorate the 11th International Yoga Day, the Silchar-based Niramaya School of Yoga Education organized a grand multi-location event titled “Yoga Sangam” on June 21. Spanning across 10 venues in Silchar and nearby areas, the initiative drew participation from over 3,000 yoga practitioners of all age groups.

The day’s central event took place at Gurucharan College in collaboration with the GC College Yoga Centre and the 3 Assam Battalion NCC. Embracing this year’s global theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the event featured structured yoga protocol sessions and collective meditation.

Among the venues for Yoga Sangam were Silchar GC College, PM Bhorakhai High School, Silchar Women’s College, Tarapur Madanmohan Akhra, Lumding Pranabananda Vidyamandir (Bharat Sevashram Sangha), Badarpur Al Hira National Senior Secondary School, and others.

The central event began with a traditional inauguration ceremony featuring the lighting of lamps, chanting of Vedic mantras, and blowing of conch shells. GC College Principal Dr. Apratim Nag, Commanding Officer of 3 Assam Battalion NCC Lt. Col. Saurabh Chamoli, GC College Yoga Centre Coordinator Dr. Keshab Luitel, Niramaya Director Shatakshi Bhattacharjee, and Dr. Tuhin Deshmukhya were present on the dais.

The yoga protocol session was led by trainers Rahul Chakraborty, Shatakshi Bhattacharjee, and Divya Geetanand Rahul, with demonstrations by Rejal Ahmed and Ratul Chakraborty. Hundreds of participants joined in the guided meditation and yoga sequences.

In the second phase of the program, GC College felicitated key members of Niramaya and the NCC. Among those honored were Niramaya Chairman Dr. Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee, senior advisors Shibabrata Dutta, Benulal Barman, Dr. Parthankar Choudhury, Rasaraj Das, Senior Instructor Abhik Bhattacharjee, and SM Dan Bahadur Buddha Magar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ajit Bhattacharjee and Shibabrata Dutta stressed the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical and mental well-being. “Yoga, when practiced regularly under proper guidance, can protect us from numerous ailments,” said Dr. Bhattacharjee.

A special highlight of the event was the release of a booklet titled “Glimpses of Niramaya” by dignitaries present.

The celebration concluded with a peace mantra and an oath-taking ceremony pledging daily yoga practice. Vedic mantras were recited by Shreya Dutta and Dipanjali Roy, while Ruchita Roy and Shrestha Choudhury welcomed guests with the traditional Chandam Phota. The program was anchored by Debashis Purkayastha.

GC College, NCC cadets, and young yoga enthusiasts were presented with mementos from Niramaya. Renowned photographer Partha Seal was also felicitated for his contribution to the promotion of yoga education.
