Silchar: In a mysterious incident, a 31-year-old youth from Cachar district went missing from a moving train while returning home from Goa. The missing youth, Hemanta Barik, son of Arjun Barik, was a resident of Bhubandhar Kalibari area under the Dholai Assembly constituency. He had been employed in a private company in Goa for several years and used to visit home once every year or so.
According to family sources, Hemanta first arrived at Kolkata’s Sealdah railway station from Goa. From there, on November 1 at 6:50 am, he boarded the Kanchenjunga Express (Train No. 13175) from Sealdah to Silchar, traveling in coach S8, seat number 49.
His brother, who also works in Goa, last spoke to him around 3:40 am that night. After that, all communication with Hemanta was lost. His brother said that Hemanta had kept his mobile phone inside his bag after their conversation. When he called again in the morning, an unknown person answered the phone.
The caller informed the family that he was traveling on the same train and in the same coach, seated next to Hemanta, and was on his way to Badarpur for some personal work. He claimed that long before the train reached Lumding, Hemanta was no longer at his seat. The phone kept ringing from inside Hemanta’s bag, and when the man finally answered it, he later handed over the bag along with the mobile phone to Hemanta’s family.
However, the man could not provide any clear explanation regarding Hemanta’s mysterious disappearance, leaving the family and local residents deeply concerned.
