CAU hosts International Conference on “Agriculture in Hilly and Mountain Landscape: An Interdisciplinary Perspective”

Altogether 11 keynote papers were presented by eminent scientists in the field of agriculture, hill and mountain ecologies under six technical sessions

The inaugural programme for the three-day International Conference on “Agriculture In Hilly And Mountain Landscape: An Interdisciplinary Perspective” was held today at the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam, Meghalaya, a constituent college of Central Agricultural University, Imphal (CAU).

Director of Instruction CAU (Imphal) Dr. S. Basanta Singh welcomed all the delegates and participants of the International Conference. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Marothia, President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE), Mumbai who was the Chief Guest of the seminar spoke about the opportunity provided by this international seminar to interact with eminent key speakers and widen perspectives in the field of Agriculture and allied sector.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU(Imphal) and the Chairman of the conference emphasized the achievements of the Central Agricultural University, Imphal. He also spoke about the signing of MoUs with national and international Universities for Academic and research collaboration.  

Dr.  Prabhudatta Sahoo General Manager / OIC, NABARD spoke about the NABARD mandates and also said conferences like this will empower and uplift the livelihood of farmers. Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra talked about the five powers of Ws i.e. Women, Water, Weed, Weather, and Wealth.

Isawanda Laloo, Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department,  Government of Meghalaya congratulated the organizers for the timely implementation of the conference in agriculture in hilly and mountain landscape which will bring productive and meaningful deliberation to the farmers of Meghalaya and in the Northeast Region in General.

Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) said that this platform will provide solutions to the farmer’s issues with respect to hilly and mountain landscapes.

Dr. Tej Partap Former Vice Chancellor, of CSKHPAU and GBPUAT insisted that sharing knowledge and information on this platform will solve the critical issues of agriculture.

Four books namely Abstracts cum Souvenir; Research footprint of CPGS-AS; Biopesticides by Dr. P Dutta and Organic Spice Cultivation by Dr R Singh were released during the programme.

Altogether 11 keynote papers were presented by eminent scientists in the field of agriculture, hill and mountain ecologies under six technical sessions. In the remaining days, scientists from India as well as from foreign countries like Thailand, Bangladesh, Philippines, Bhutan, Nepal, and Srilanka will present papers on various topics related to the topic.

More than 300 participants registered for the conference on the first day.
