As many as 2,000 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants in Goalpara, Assam were served eviction notices and given two days to vacate, failing which they will face bulldozer action. Last month, the Supreme Court of India stated that “India is not a dharamsala to host foreign nationals.”

The North East states have been largely affected by the influx of illegal immigrants and Assam is also struggling with this threat. This strong measure by the Assam State Government is highly welcomed and the remaining states also need to take up similar steps to protect the indigenous communities of the entire region. In Manipur, the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants were launched by Shri

@NBirenSingh government and the measures are ongoing. In his recent meeting with Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah in New Delhi, he also requested for an extension of 30 days for the detection of undocumented immigrants concerning the MHA’s direction upon the States and UTs to take action against illegal immigrants.
