Congress backs ‘Operation Sindoor’: Gaurav Gogoi, Kharge, RaGa hail strikes, call for unity

Northeast chief ministers have strongly backed ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Indian armed forces’ cross-border strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, calling it a powerful response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operation on X, writing “?? #OperationSindoor”, while Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma declared, “India remembers and India fights back. There is no room for terrorism. Jai Hind.”
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang hailed the mission as a reflection of India’s “unwavering resolve,” praising the armed forces for delivering justice and upholding the dignity of Indian mothers. “Their courage protects our sovereignty,” he said.
Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh echoed the sentiment, stating, “The wounds of Pahalgam still ache, but today, justice has begun to answer. Jai Hind!” in reference to the attack that claimed 26 lives.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also voiced support, writing simply: #OperationSindoor.”
“Jai Hind! Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” the Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated on X.
The unified chorus from Northeast leaders underscores the political and emotional significance of the operation, with bipartisan support rallying behind the armed forces’ action.
Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, on May 7, appreciated India’s strike on terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Taking to his X handle, Gogoi said, “I applaud the initiative taken by the Armed Forces and the government in last night’s punitive air strikes.”
“This is the time for national unity and solidarity with our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!” he added.
Retaliating against the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces on early Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke.
The military strikes were conducted under ‘Operation Sindoor’, two weeks after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said India has an unflinching national policy against all forms of terrorism emanating from Pakistan and PoK.
“We are extremely proud of our Indian Armed Forces who have struck terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. We applaud their resolute resolve and courage.
“Since the day of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian National Congress has categorically stood with the armed forces and the government to take any decisive action against cross-border terror,” he said in a post on X.
“National unity and solidarity is the need of the hour and the Indian National Congress stands with our Armed Forces. Our leaders have shown the path in the past, and national interest is supreme for us,” Kharge said using the hashtag #OperationSindoor.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi posted on X, “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “India’s commitment to eliminating all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and PoK has necessarily to be uncompromising and always be anchored in the supreme national interest.”
“This is a time for unity and solidarity. Right from the night of April 22nd, the INC has been categorically stating that the govt will have our fullest support in the nation’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The INC is standing firmly with our armed force,” he said.
In a post in Hindi on X, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “We are extremely proud of our army. Our brave soldiers protect our freedom and integrity.”
“May God protect them and give them immense strength to face challenges with patience and bravery,” she said.
