GUWAHATI : Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a strong warning to illegal infiltrators after the cabinet approved a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950.

Action: Illegal entrants near the border or caught within 12 hours will be “pushed back” immediately. Process: Suspects given 10 days to prove citizenship before the DC; otherwise, direct expulsion. Cases without clarity go to the Foreigners Tribunal.

Data Capture: Biometrics/demographics of detected migrants to be recorded before deportation.
Sarma called it a landmark step, backed by the Supreme Court’s mandate.
