Imphal: Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Meena Longjam has conveyed her best wishes to the North East Integration Rally, praising the initiative for promoting unity, creativity, and social awareness across the region.

Meena Longjam, an independent filmmaker from Manipur, made history as the first woman filmmaker from the state to win a National Film Award for her debut documentary Auto Driver. The film captures the struggles and resilience of a woman auto driver in Imphal, reflecting broader social realities in a conflict-affected city.

In 2015, she founded Airameen Media, a platform dedicated to producing socially conscious films and publishing works that focus on gender, culture, and the arts. Her body of work includes Auto Driver (2015), Echo — which won recognition at the Peace Builders’ International Film Festival (2016) — and Andro Dreams, which opened the Indian Panorama Non-Feature section at the International Film Festival of India 2023.

She has also served as a jury member for the Non-Feature Films category at the 67th National Film Awards, further cementing her influence in Indian cinema.

In her message to the North East Integration Rally, Meena Longjam expressed hope that such platforms will continue to empower youth voices, celebrate cultural diversity, and drive positive change across the region.
