Imphal: Renowned Manipuri film actor Athokpam Gokul has extended his best wishes to the Northeast Integration Rally (NEIR) 2026, applauding the event’s vision of unity and regional pride.
Speaking about the initiative, Gokul said that such efforts go beyond adventure and travel—they help strengthen emotional and cultural connections across the eight northeastern states. He commended the organisers for creating a platform that celebrates diversity while promoting shared identity.
Athokpam Gokul (also known as Gokul Athokpam), often affectionately called the “Dawn Actor,” is a prominent Indian actor renowned for his contributions to Manipuri cinema (Meitei films). Born and raised in Thangmeiband, Imphal, Manipur, he has established himself as a versatile performer through his work in films, theatre, and traditional Shumang Leela (a form of street theatre in Manipur).
His career highlights his dedication, starting from antagonistic roles to leading dramatic performances, and he has also ventured into film production.
Gokul began his artistic journey alongside his studies, participating in bodybuilding and tutoring younger students while in the 12th grade. He transitioned into acting through theater, appearing in several acclaimed Shumang Leelas such as Lidishigi Gulap (also spelt Lidicegee Gulap), Nangna Luhongdringei, and Lambidudei. In 2001, he joined the celluloid artist group under the Bright Film production titled “Dawn,” earning him the enduring nickname “Dawn Actor.” This marked his formal entry into Manipuri films, where he initially took on challenging antagonistic roles to build his craft.
He has been recognised for his hard work in an industry that demands resilience, particularly as an “upcoming” talent who rose through determination despite early struggles.
Gokul’s talent has been honoured multiple times by Manipuri film bodies:
- Film Academy Manipur (FAM) Special Awards: Selected for the 4th Film Vision Special Award (2009–10) and 5th Film Vision Special Award (2010–11).
- 3rd Sahitya Seva Samiti Manipur Film Award (SSS MANIFA 2014): Won Best Actor for Thajagee Maihing, presented on April 21, 2014, at Kakching Khullen Ibudhou Khamlangba Laikol, organized by Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching and Film Forum Manipur.
The Northeast Integration Rally 2026 aims to celebrate NE achievers and showcase the breathtaking landscapes, rich traditions, and resilient spirit of the region through a series of interconnected circuits. The event has already drawn strong interest from riders and enthusiasts across India.
